When I buy a final resting place, do I own the land?

No, you are actually purchasing the right to be placed there (an Interment Right). It is the right to be interred in that space.

How long do I own my interment rights?

Law requires that interment rights in Ontario be sold in perpetuity. This means you and then your heirs will own the interment rights forever.

What are your office hours?

Monday – Friday 9am-5pm
Saturday – by appointment only

Who can purchase a final resting place at West Oak?

West Oak is open to all Christian faiths.

What is the Care & Maintenance fund?

By law, a percentage of every interment right sale is placed into a trust fund. Cemetery operators use the interest received to maintain the cemetery. The principal amount is not allowed to be used. This ensures that we will be able to maintain our cemetery forever. Forty percent of every in-ground interment right sale and 15% of every above-ground cremation interment right is placed into the fund.

Can someone else in my family use the space I purchased?

Anyone can use the space as long as they have written permission from the rights holder.

Can shrubs or flowers be planted on a plot?

All plantings require the approval of the cemetery.

Who do I contact for maintenance issues at the cemetery?

Do you have facilities for memorial services?

Yes, the SVCC has full banquet/reception capabilities and can be booked through our cemetery office or may call the reception centre directly at (905) 827-6477.

Why is having a place to visit so important?

To remember or to be remembered is an essential human need. A permanent place for memorialization serves as an important emotional function for family and friends, helping them bring closure and allowing the healing process to begin.

Can monuments or markers be purchased directly from West Oak?

Yes, this is the best place to purchase one. You can be assured that a monument purchased through our cemetery meets our by-laws and can be placed in our cemetery. We will work closely with you to create the perfect monument to fit your needs.

When can wreaths be placed?

Memorial wreaths may be placed in the cemetery after November 15th and must be removed before April 15th of the following year.

How long has the Cemetery been in business?

The cemetery was founded in 1984.

Can you recommend a funeral home to use?

Yes of course, please call our office at (905) 827-1647 and we would be happy to assist you.

Do we have to use a vault?

It is your choice if you would like to use a burial vault. However, we recommend using a burial vault as it helps protect the casket. Most families select a burial vault for the peace of mind it provides.
